The crown jewel of the Mediterranean sea
It might seem difficult to part from our amazing views and abandon the serenity of your residence, but rest assured that Milos is a magnificent destination, with hidden beauties and unrivaled sites.
Milos is one of the biggest islands of the Cyclades (the complex of islands of the Aegean Sea that form a circle) and is the biggest natural port of the Mediterranean, naturally shaped as a bay. Milos has been a safe haven for ships and voyagers alike throughout the centuries, offering peace and protection from the adverse winds.
The most important feature of the island however, is the geological wealth of this beautiful island. Milos is home to one of the few volcanoes of Greece and owes its creation to the tremendous force of nature that was its explosion. An impressive variety of unique landscapes, from the white lunar landscape of Sarakiniko to the Martian valley of Cape Vani, along with a long history of mining activity that shaped the culture and history of the Melians are all thank to the volcanic character of Milos.
The volcano has graced Milos with more than 75 magnificent and different beaches, surely many of which can satisfy any taste; from pebbly to sandy, organized to secluded and from transparent to turquoise waters, you will certainly find the one(s) for you. And fear not the famous meltemi, or any other winds, as the beaches of Milos are scattered all along its beautiful coastline, so you will always find one to enjoy, no matter the direction of the wind, from Pollonia, Fyropotamos, Plathiena and Alogomandra in the north, to Ag.Kyriaki, Fyriplaka, Provatas and Paliochori to the south, to name a few.
Don’t let the beach time carry you away though, as the culture and history of Milos are waiting for you to explore and feel like a local in this welcoming island. Most of the villages are gathered in the north of Milos, starting with the crown jewel that is the picturesque capital of Plaka; with winding narrow streets, overlooking the entrance of the port, this village holds the most breathtaking sunset view you will find in Milos, cozy bars, traditional restaurants and many shops
.At the foot of the hill of Plaka, you will find the original melian life, with a complex of villages where mst villages live; Triovasalos, Plakes and of course the traditional village of Trypiti, where you can visit the Catacombs of Milos, one of the most important religious and archaeological sites of Greece, the place where the famous Venus de Milo was discovered and the ancient theater. All three sites stand vigilant above the famous fishing village of Klima, right on the seafront, with its beautiful traditional colorful fishermen houses, the syrmata. And for an even more authentic fishing village experience, on the other side of Plaka, beautiful Mandrakia are waiting for you to explore.
Driving along the north coast, from Plaka towards the north east of the island, you will find the amazing lunar landscape of Sarakiniko with its blinding white rocks, the volcanic cave of Papafragas and the ruins of the ancient capital of Phylacopi, before you reach Pollonia. Pollonia is one of the most famous villages of Milos, on the north east extreme of the island, as it is a traditional fishing village, with some of the best restaurants of Milos, beautiful beaches and a daily connection to the small island of Kimolos. A day trip to the neighboring island of Kimolos is a not-to-miss experience, especially if you are staying for quite a few days with us.
In the center of the bay of Milos, lies Adamas, the heart of the island during the summer months and the lively port of Milos. With restaurants, nightlife, shops and services, Adamas is the commercial and bustling port of Milos.
Leaving civilization behind, the west and east coast of Milos are waiting for you to explore and scrape the surface of this destination. Hop on your 4x4 or book a land tour to take you to the west side of Milos, a natura 2000 protected area with virgin landscapes and secluded beaches, the old manganese mines location of Cape Vani, an extraordinary site and many beautiful viewpoints over the bay of Adamas. Alternatively, the east side of the island, also accessible only by 4x4 vehicle, is home to amazing landscapes, beautiful beaches and the fantom city of the old Sulfur Mines of Milos, an abandoned amphitheatrical complex of facilities and houses of the mines.
